8 Most Charming Beaches of Granada and What Makes Them Special

Enjoy a special day at the Alhambra with a guided tour

In total, Granada's beaches span about 19 kilometers of tropical coastline, each with its own unique charm and distinct characteristics.
It's difficult to find beaches with fine white sand, unlike other parts of Andalusia. Granada's beaches are mostly rocky, characterized by dark stones rather than sand.

This makes them ideal beaches for snorkeling and diving, thanks to the clarity of their seabed. Additionally, they are perfect for birdwatching, as many birds nest in the rocks along the coastline.
Many of these beaches are surrounded by rocks and cliffs, offering numerous caves and exotic plant species to explore.

The principal towns near the Granada coast are Motril, Salobreña and Almuñécar, known for their rich historical and cultural heritage, dating back to ancient times.
Apart from the 8 best beaches of Granada listed below, in these pages, you can find detailed information about the top beaches in each of these villages:

Opinions about Granada Beaches
Calahonda Beach

I recommend Playa Calahonda. It’s clean, has a blue flag, and features small pebbles and crystal-clear water. The beach is spacious and not very crowded, making it a good place for a day out.
Parents should watch their children due to the water’s depth, but despite the quick drop, the water remains calm.
Rijana beach, worth the effort

Playa Rijana is a secluded, semi-nudist beach. Access involves descending a hill to reach the flat-stoned beach with clear water. Finding the way down can be challenging initially, but you can follow others through a tunnel. It's a peaceful spot where we enjoyed snorkeling and watching locals jump off the cliffs.
San Cristobal beach, with lively promenade with a party vibe

Not mentioned here, San Cristobal is our favorite in Almunecar. The beach has a mix of stone and sand, very clear water, and offers sunbeds and umbrellas. There's a pleasant tree-lined promenade for walking.
If you enjoy a lively promenade with a party vibe, numerous restaurants, cafes, shops, and several hotels, this is the place for you. Parking is easy, and in summer, there's a small market.
Getting out of the sea can be challenging due to the steep incline.
