How to Get From Granada to Sierra Nevada by Car, Bus or Taxi

Granada airport airport is about 42 kilometers away from Sierra Nevada, while Malaga airport is situated 180 kilometers away.
You can get from Granada to Sierra Nevada by bus, by car or by taxi, via one of the highest roads in Europe.
You can't reach Sierra Nevada directly from the Granada, Malaga, or Seville airport, nor is there a direct train service. To get there, you'll need to make a transfer at Granada Bus Station, or take a taxi or rent a car.
The A-395 is a winding mountain road built in 1935. However, in 1990, when Sierra Nevada hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, the road was improved, and now is smooth and well-maintained.
If there isn't much traffic, the journey typically takes 40 minutes by car.
However, during weekends and bank holidays in high season, the journey might take much longer. Traffic jams are common at the beginning and end of the day.
Please bear in mind that the road can become quite narrow at times, and overtaking is forbidden.
You can also reach Sierra Nevada by bus, which takes about an hour from Granada bus station.
There are also local buses in Sierra Nevada to help you get around between the different areas of the ski resort.
The distances from Sierra Nevada to some Spanish cities are: 160 kilometres to Málaga, 462 km to Madrid and 286 km to Seville.
The Best Ways to Get to Sierra Nevada
From Granada to Sierra Nevada from Granada Airport
If you're flying, Granada Airport is the most convenient option, though it offers only a limited
number of international flights and they generally more expensive than to Malaga.
Malaga, however, is the best and the most economical alternative if you want to avoid a connecting flight to Granada.
Malaga Airport serves numerous airlines, including British Airways, Air Europa, Air France, EasyJet, Iberia Express, KLM, Qatar Airways, Ryanair, and Wizz Air. American Airlines don't fly to Malaga.
From Malaga Airport, you can take a direct Alsa bus to Granada, there's no need to go to the Malaga
Bus Station first. The journey takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes.
If You Arrive at the Granada Train Station
Although Granada isn't particularly well-connected by train, several daily routes run from Malaga, Madrid, Seville, and Barcelona. You can fly to Madrid and then take a train to Granada.
The fastest train frlom Malaga takes just 1 hour and 20 minutes, with prices starting at 18 euros.
However, you’ll need to go to the Malaga Train Station first.
Renting a Car
Renting a car is another great option, with rental services available at both Malaga and Granada airports, as well as at Granada's train station.Private transfers

The company providing bus services to Sierra Nevada is Autocares Tocina.
This bus departs from Granada bus station, situated in the north of Granada. There is another intemidiate bus stop in Palacio de Congresos.
Departure times from Granada Bus Station (during ski season)
Monday to Friday: 08:00 (8:15 Palacio de Congresos), 10:15 (10:30 Pal. Congresos) and 17:15 (17:30 Pal. Congresos).
Public holidays, Saturdays and Sundays: 08:00 (8:15 Pal. Congresos), 10:15 (10:30 Pal. Congresos),
15:00 (15:15 Pal. Congresos) and 17:15 (17:30 Pal. Congresos).
You can carry your skies, snowboard, and any other sports equipment on this bus.
Departure times from Sierra Nevada (during ski season)
Monday to Friday: 09:00, 16:00 and 18:30.Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays: 09:00, 13:00, 16:00 and 18:30.
You can catch the bus to Granada in Pradollano.
Outside the Ski Season

How to Get to Sierra Nevada by Car
• From the A-44 motorway, take exit 132 towards Ronda Sur/Sierra Nevada/Alhambra, and then follow the exit to the A-395 road leading to Sierra Nevada.
• In the tunnels, stay in the right lane to take exit 5B toward A-395 Sierra Nevada/Pinos Genil. Note that the left lane is for the Alhambra and Granada, so be careful.
• At kilometer 21, you'll notice a right turn leading to Visitor's Center 'El Dornajo'.
Keep driving on the A-395 (warning: your GPS might tell you to turn left there and take the A-4025).
You could also reach Sierra Nevada by the A-4025, although this route is longer and more difficult.
• After driving for about 5 miles, you'll encounter the ski resort entrance signs and a roundabout. At this point, you'll need to find a place to park your car.
• If you keep straight on you will arrive at the centre of the ski resort: village Pradollano.
Parking Plaza de Andalucia, the ski pass office, and most of the ski lifts are located right there.
• However, if you need to access the higher part of the ski resort, where there are two more car parks and the Youth Hostel, turn left and continue driving on the A-395 until you reach one of the parking areas: Los Peñones or Las Sabinas car parks.
From there, you can access the ski slopes by using the Virgen de las Nieves chairlift .

How to Get to Sierra Nevada by Taxi
The cost of a taxi to Sierra Nevada may increase during snowy conditions,
typically around 100 euros.
In normal weather conditions the price is about 80 euros.
