Where to Eat and Drink
The visit will likely last all day, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes, protect yourself from the sun, and bring some water.
There is no place to buy drinks, only a couple of vending machines
near the entrance of the Palace of Charles V.
Additionally, there is a small kiosk/bar in the square just after the Puerta del Vino.
This bar is an ideal spot to grab some water or beer, especially if it gets very hot.
You can also take a moment to relax and enjoy the views while your kids play in the square before you continue up to the Torre de la Vela.
However, there are several water fountains where you can quench your thirst.
Near the entrance to the Generalife, there are a couple of restaurants : one next to the entrance pavilion (La Mimbre) and another across from the bus stop (Jardines Alberto).
In some areas, you can exit the enclosure to eat and then return with the same ticket, but you cannot re-enter Palacios Nazaries or the Alcazaba more than once.
Please note that eating or drinking inside the palaces, courtyards, and monumental rooms is not permitted .
Guided Tours for Families
The Alhambra's Tourism Tourism Board organizes guided tours specifically designed for families under a program called "The Alhambra closer". Unfortunately, it is currently only available in Spanish.
These expert-guided visits focus on specific topics, such as the water and
gardens of the Alhambra,
or the colors and shapes of its palaces. This way, both young and old can learn together.
This program starts in October and runs on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 12:30.
The cost is 6 euros for adults, 3 euros for children aged 9 to 15, and children under 9 enter for free.
For more information please check our Alhambra
and Generalife pages.
The Alhambra with Babies
If you bring a baby stroller or pram for your little one, please note that you cannot enter the rooms with it.You cannot enter the Nasrid Palaces or the Generalife Palace with a wheelchair, and you must carry your backpack in front.
Before entering the Nasrid Palaces, you will need to leave the stroller, free of charge, in the lockers located next to the Palace of Charles V.
The Medina Azahara staff will guide you to the location and can also provide information regarding the loan of baby carriers, so you won't have to carry them in your arms.
On the other hand, you cannot ascend to the Alcazaba, especcially Torre de la Vela, with carts as it is an impossible task. There are numerous stairs, and they are very narrow.
Taking baby strollers to the Alhambra can be very impractical. There are many cobblestones, slopes,
and stairs throughout the premises.
If feasible, it is advisable to bring a baby carrier.
Where are the Toilets?
There are 4 restroom facilities in the Alhambra: one is located near the Alhambra Access Pavilion, where the ticket offices and parking are situated; another is near the Puerta del Vino and the Palace of Charles V, in the same building where the lockers are located.
And there are two additional restroom facilities in the Generalife Gardens: one is located next to the theater with cypresses, and the
other is situated next to the Water Stairs.
Ensure you are well-prepared with the children before entering areas such as the Nasrid Palaces and the Alcazaba, as there are no nearby facilities.

before the visit, allowing their imagination to roam freely when they see it.
There are books about the Alhambra and its legends specifically designed for children.
How to Get to the Alhambra with Children
There are several options: you can get there by bus, on foot, or by tourist train.
- By Alhambra bus: this is the fastest way but these
small buses are usually
full and maybe this is not the most comfortable way to travel.
- On Foot: It's a very enjoyable route that children can appreciate, but it does involve an uphill ascent.
- By tourist train: Taking the small train to the Alhambra can be a fun experience for children.
The Granada City Tour train departs from the Alhambra and goes to the Albaicin, but it costs 8-10 euros, which is five times more expensive than taking the bus.
